Montessori Floor Bed Buyer's Guide for UAE Homes (2026)
A Montessori floor bed is one of the simplest ways to give your toddler more independence at bedtime. It sits low, so your child can climb in and out without help, and it turns the bedroom into a space they can explore safely. But with house frames, teepees, trundles and rails of different heights to choose from, it isn't always obvious which bed suits your child, your room and your family. This buyer's guide walks UAE parents through everything to check before you order, from age and rail height to mattress sizes, safety and living with tiled floors and air conditioning.
What is a Montessori floor bed?
A Montessori floor bed is a low bed frame that keeps the mattress close to the ground. The idea comes from the Montessori approach to early childhood, which encourages children to move freely and do things for themselves. Instead of waiting to be lifted out of a cot, your child can get up when they wake, find a book or a toy, and come back to bed on their own. Many families find it also makes the move from cot to "big bed" much gentler, because the bed already feels familiar.
At CASA HQ, our Montessori floor beds are made from solid white wood and come in a range of styles, from simple railed frames to playful house and teepee designs.
What age is right for a floor bed?
There's no single right age. Some Montessori families start with a floor bed from early infancy, while many others switch when their child starts climbing out of the cot, usually somewhere in the toddler years. What matters more than the exact age is your child's stage: if they're walking, curious and starting to resist the cot, a floor bed is usually a good fit. If you're starting with a very young baby, always follow current safe-sleep guidance from your paediatrician, including a firm, well-fitting mattress and a bed space clear of pillows and loose bedding.
Because our frames come in sizes up to a full-size mattress, a floor bed can last well beyond the toddler years. Many parents pick a bigger size from the start so the bed grows with their child.

Choosing the right rail height
Rails are there to stop your child rolling out at night while still leaving an opening to climb in and out. As a rough guide:
- Lower rails (around 35 cm) keep the bed open and easy to access, which suits children who are already confident moving in and out of bed.
- Medium rails (around 45 to 50 cm) are a good middle ground for most toddlers.
- Higher rails (around 55 cm) give extra reassurance for restless sleepers or children who are new to a bed without cot sides.
Remember that a thicker mattress sits higher inside the frame, so the part of the rail above the mattress gets smaller. Take your mattress depth into account when you compare rail heights.
Mattress sizes and fit
Our floor beds are sold as frames, and the mattress is not included. Most styles come in 70x140, 90x200, 120x200, 140x200, 160x200 and 180x200 cm (the Noora with slide starts at 90x200). The overall frame is 10 cm larger than the mattress in length and width, so a 70x140 cm mattress means a frame of about 80x150 cm. Measure your room with that in mind and leave space to walk around the bed.
A snug fit is important. The mattress should fill the frame with no large gaps at the sides where small hands or feet could get caught. If you choose the Hazel, its trundle takes a mattress up to 15 cm thick.
Safety checklist for a floor bed room
Because your child can get up and move around freely, the whole room becomes part of the bed. Before the first night:
- Anchor wardrobes, shelves and dressers to the wall.
- Cover plug sockets and tidy away cables, blind cords and curtain ties.
- Keep the area around the bed clear of hard or sharp objects.
- Use a stair gate or door gate if you don't want your toddler wandering the house at night.
- Keep only a few toys and books out, on low open shelves your child can reach safely. Our toy storage range is designed for exactly this.
Floor beds in UAE homes: tiles, AC and airflow
Most homes in Dubai and the Northern Emirates have tiled or stone floors and air conditioning running for much of the year. A few simple habits help a floor bed work well in these conditions:
- Add a soft rug or play mat beside the bed. It softens any tumbles onto hard tiles and makes the floor warmer underfoot when the AC is on.
- Don't place the bed right under an AC vent. A steady cold draught can make your child uncomfortable at night, so position the bed away from direct airflow.
- Let the mattress breathe. Our frames have slatted bases that allow air to move under the mattress. Avoid pushing a mattress straight onto the floor without a slatted frame, especially in humid months.
- Air out the bedding regularly. Lift the mattress and check underneath now and then to keep everything fresh.

Frequently asked questions
Is a Montessori floor bed safe for toddlers?
Yes, when it's set up properly. Choose a frame with rails that suit your child, use a mattress that fits snugly, and childproof the room, since your toddler can get up on their own.
What mattress size should I buy for a floor bed?
Many parents of toddlers choose 70x140 cm, while a 90x200 cm or larger mattress lets the bed last into the school years. The frame will be 10 cm bigger than the mattress in length and width.
Does the floor bed come with a mattress?
No. Our floor beds are frames only, so you'll need to buy a mattress separately in your chosen size.
What are CASA HQ floor beds made of?
Our floor beds are made from solid white wood, chosen for strength and a natural look.
Which floor bed is best for small rooms?
A simple railed frame such as the Maya or Cabana in a 70x140 cm size takes up the least space. The Hazel with trundle is a smart pick if you need a second sleeping spot without a second bed.
Do you deliver to Abu Dhabi?
Not at the moment. We currently deliver to Dubai, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah.
